We love buses, and it seems the world does too. We did a little digging on some of the world’s most unusual buses, and what we found surprised us.
China’s Transit Elevated Bus
The Transit Elevated Bus, or so it was known to the world, garnered internet fame last year when a Chinese tech company, TEB Technology Development, propositioned the idea as a solution to China’s congested traffic problem. A prototype was created and posted on YouTube in a video that shocked and awed spectators. The bus’s design made it look as if it was swallowing other vehicles on the road like lunch meat. People couldn’t fathom the thought of sharing the road with this beastly machine. It was later discovered that the colossal machine was not 100 percent legitimate. The bus’s whereabouts have been traced to the port city of Qinhuangdao, but not much is being done on the development end because TEB is reportedly in financial trouble.
Madrid’s Green Rooftop Bus
In a campaign to improve the environmental impact of the city, Madrid officials have designated the creation of a green public transportation system. These garden buses are part of a campaign called “Muevete en Verde,” which entails the development of multiple crisscrossing routes along the busiest zones in the city. Each will contain a rooftop garden sustained by a custom-built irrigation system which will be engineered to prevent water leakage and boost the country’s green pedigree on a worldwide scale.
